Sintex has developed a process that enables the manufacture of extremely dense and completely impermeable stainless powder metal components based on liquid phase sintering. By employing this technique, it is possible to achieve densities of up to 7.8 g/cm3 and 0% porosity. Alternatively, a different sintering process can be used to produce powder metal components with degrees of porosity ranging from 0.1% to 60%. The higher the porosity, the lower the mechanical properties of the component concerned.
The pressing process enables a number of different geometries to be achieved, including different densities and porosities in a component. The sintering process gives the compressed filters their final mechanical properties. The sintered filters can be used as self-supporting structural elements or as part of a mechanical construction.
